12 Easy WOWs for an epic client review experience

As a financial adviser, you genuinely care. You love the people-facing side of your job – otherwise you would have been an accountant and fallen in love with spreadsheets instead. You want to give clients more value. You want them walking out of a review thinking, “WOW, I’m so glad I came in today.”

But you’re also maxed out.

You’re not just an adviser: you’re a business owner juggling compliance, CPD points, emails, file notes and leading a team. You’re wearing all the hats, and some days they’re stacked sky-high.

Maybe you’ve increased your fees… or you know you should. This means the experience needs to feel like it delivers real value without you having to invest more time (which let’s face it, you just don’t have).

Here’s the truth: the SOA you spent hours perfecting? Most clients won’t remember it. What they will remember is how you made them feel. Did they leave with confidence? Clarity? Relief? Momentum?

That’s exactly why I created the 12 Easy WOWs.

They’re small, intentional upgrades you can create once and reuse forever – so your reviews feel premium, structured and memorable, even when you’re stretched.

You don’t need all twelve. Pick one or two. That alone will put you miles ahead.

Before the review: build anticipation

1) Stop sending “dentist appointment” invites

If your message sounds like “it’s time for your annual review,” don’t be surprised if clients treat it like a chore. Rename the meeting so it feels aspirational and client-first: Progress Meeting, Momentum Meeting, Confident Retirement Session. Language sets the energy.

2) Create community at scale

A simple Book Club or Walking Group can transform your service model without adding more one-to-one hours. One book every couple of months. Or a 30-minute walk with coffee after. It forges connection between clients, strengthens loyalty and creates natural referral moments because people enjoy inviting a friend to something meaningful. Pro tip: this could also double as a marketing exercise by asking centres of influence or your clients’ friends to join.

3) Create a newsletter, podcast or video series

This one is massively underrated. But don’t send a market update nobody reads — instead, create something useful and human. Give it a cool name, like “The Good Life Report” or similar. Make it consistent. Staying visible between reviews encourages authority, trust and long-term retention (scroll to the bottom of the page to sign up for my newsletter!).

4) Prime the conversation before they walk in

Send one short video plus a simple worksheet (or use tools like MoneyMind/Lumiant). The point isn’t more paperwork – it’s richer conversations. Clients arrive already thinking about lifestyle, values and goals, not just balances and performance.

During the review: deliver the experience

5) Start with wins and joys, not numbers

Open with: “What’s been a win or a highlight for you since we last spoke?” This instantly shifts the tone from transactional to human. Then bridge into financial wins: the actions you’ve helped them take, the progress they’ve made, the decisions they’ve avoided.

6) Make vision and lifestyle a standing agenda

Once you’ve celebrated what’s been good, ask “What’s next?” Retirement and pre-retirement planning isn’t only about money – it’s about having something to look forward to. If clients can’t answer straight away, use prompts to create a Life & Adventures list they can keep on their fridge until your next meeting.

7) Stop telling – start showing

“Will my money last?” is emotional, not technical. Visual modelling and live “what if” scenarios give clients permission to spend and confidence to act. Run it in the room. Make it collaborative. It turns advice into an experience.

8) Go beyond the will with a Peace of Mind Plan

Most families don’t struggle because they lack documents – they struggle because everything is scattered. A Peace of Mind Plan is a step-by-step guide for your client’s power of attorney or executors that includes key documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc.), digital assets and practical instructions – giving them total peace of mind that their affairs are in order should the worst happen. This becomes something you update during every review – and helps protect your revenue by building trust with spouses and families.

After the review: reinforce the relationship

9) Send a same-day recap that’s warm and actionable

Clients forget half the meeting within hours. A short recap email with top takeaways, next steps and one personal reference (“Loved hearing about the Darwin trip”) keeps momentum high. Bonus: this can be completed almost instantly with AI tools such as claras.ai, and makes your service feel premium.

10) The 7-second check-in

Halfway between reviews, send a quick “thinking of you” text. It’s tiny. It’s human. And it often uncovers real advice opportunities (career changes, health events, family decisions) without you “selling” anything. This should feel conversational not formal, for example: “Hey Sarah, just checking in to see what’s new with you? I hope you are well? Cheers, Adele”.

11) Run one-to-many events

One or two simple client sessions a year, online or in-person. Give clients guest passes. Record it and add it to your portal. This grows community, increases perceived value and creates referrals without any awkwardness. In my own advice business, clients were always asking about salary packaging. Rather than answering the same questions repeatedly, I brought in a specialist to run a focused session. Clients loved it – anything that reduced their tax was a big hit – and it became a resource I could direct future clients to whenever the topic came up. One session, ongoing value!

12) Replace jargon with a one-page snapshot

A one-page year ahead summary that covers lifestyle goals, income plan, key actions and “peace of mind” items is fridge-worthy, memorable, and changes how they describe you to others.

The takeaway

Clients don’t just want financial advice; they want confidence, connection and clarity.

You don’t need more hours in your week to deliver that. You need more WOW in the hours you already have.

Pick one WOW to implement this month. Build it once. Reuse it forever. That’s how you scale service without burning out.
