Advisers, Stop Apologising: $5,000 for Quality Advice is Incredible Value

And here’s why

I’m so sick of seeing headlines that say $5,000 is too expensive for people to get financial advice and that we need to make it cheaper.

Rubbish.

$5,000 is ridiculously cheap for what clients actually get.

My millennial clients, many with mortgages and credit card debt and not a lot invested yet, happily pay $7,000 to $10,000 a year for advice. They pay straight from their bank account, not from super.

Why? Because in the first year alone, they often make two to four times their investment back.

I even offer a happiness guarantee. If they’re not completely thrilled after 30 days, I insist on refunding them. I also make it easy to say yes by offering a payment plan or a discount for upfront payment.

Real Clients, Real Returns

Here’s how clients regularly make a 2–4x return in their first year:

  • Spending plan and structure: Most save at least $10,000 just by getting organised.

  • Pay rise: I give them a script to ask for one. One client got $20,000.

  • Bill review: Especially on mortgages. One client saved $7,000.

  • Salary sacrifice: Even small amounts reduce their tax bill.

  • Super fund choice: Many are stuck in old employer funds or overly conservative ones.

  • Kids’ investments: Often sitting in cash and not set up tax effectively.

  • Insurance: Most overpay for poor policies they got through their bank. We fix that quickly.

The Non-Financial Wins

Let’s not forget the non-financial benefits. Clients often tell me they feel:

  • Happier

  • More confident and in control

  • Less stressed

  • Closer to their partner because they’re finally on the same financial page

We track these outcomes through regular surveys, and the results speak for themselves.

So, Next Time You See That Headline

The next time you see someone say $5,000 is too expensive for advice, take a moment to reflect on the value you bring.

Think about what people already spend on other areas of their lives. Many of my clients spend thousands a year maintaining their lashes and brows.

Financial advice helps people save, grow, and build confidence for life.

So no, $5,000 isn’t too expensive. It’s a bargain.
